Slack formats messages with a markdown-like syntax (mrkdwn): asterisks for bold, underscores for italic, backticks for code, angle quotes for blockquotes, and triple backticks for code blocks.
It diverges from standard markdown in details — no headings, links are auto-detected — but markdown habits transfer directly, and Slack's API uses the same conventions for bot and app messages.
