Markdown Preview Live, and the Markdown Studio browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Last updated: 31 July 2026

In short: the browser extension collects nothing. It has no servers, makes no network requests, and contains no analytics or tracking. Every document you write, open or convert stays on your own device.

Who this covers

This policy covers two things published by Pintu Dabhi: the Markdown Preview Live website at markdownpreviewlive.com, and the Markdown Studio browser extension distributed through the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons.

The two behave differently in one respect — website analytics — and this policy says so plainly below rather than glossing over it.

The browser extension

What it collects

Nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no telemetry and no usage reporting. Specifically, none of the following is collected:

  • Personally identifiable information (name, address, email, age)
  • Health information
  • Financial and payment information
  • Authentication information (passwords, credentials)
  • Personal communications (emails, messages)
  • Location
  • Web history
  • User activity (clicks, keystrokes, analytics)
  • Content of websites you visit

Where your documents are stored

Documents are saved locally by the browser, in the extension storage area on your own device. They are never transmitted anywhere. Removing the extension deletes them, so export anything you want to keep before uninstalling.

When you use Save to disk or Open file, the extension uses the browser’s File System Access API. Your browser shows a file picker and grants access only to the single file you choose. The extension cannot read any other file on your computer, and that permission is not retained after you close the browser.

Document conversions

Converting to and from PDF, Word, HTML and JSON happens entirely inside the browser tab. Files are read into memory, converted by libraries bundled with the extension, and written straight back to your device. Nothing is uploaded at any point, and every conversion works with no internet connection.

Permissions

  • storage — saves your documents and preferences on your device so your work is still there next time you open the editor.
  • unlimitedStorage — imported Word and PDF documents embed their images directly in the document, which can exceed the browser’s default 5 MB storage limit.

The extension requests no host permissions and installs no content scripts, so it cannot read or change any web page you visit. It runs only on its own editor page.

Network activity

The extension makes no network requests. Every library it uses — the Markdown renderer, the maths and diagram engines, and the PDF and Word converters — is bundled inside the extension package and loaded from your own device.

Images you reference by web address in a document are loaded by your browser from wherever you pointed them, exactly as on any web page. That request goes directly from your browser to that address.

The website

Documents you edit on markdownpreviewlive.com are also processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to any server.

The website does use standard web analytics to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. Analytics of that kind typically set cookies and record IP addresses. You can block them with any content blocker or through your browser’s privacy settings. The extension does none of this: it contains no analytics and no cookies.

Sharing and selling

No personal data is collected by the extension, so none is shared, sold, transferred, or used for advertising, credit assessment, lending, or any purpose unrelated to the tool’s core function.

Children

These are general-purpose writing tools. The extension collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If either product ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is published, and the date at the top will change.
